PYROtechnics was incorporated in January of 1994 by Jamie Kail as a one man computer consulting firm. In his spare time, Mr. Kail handled several regular clients, and completed several large programming projects.

Mr. Kail first became involved in the Internet when he was given an early release of Linux by a friend. He was so taken by the ability to connect to computers around the globe from a local access point that he decided to replace the PYROtechnics BBS with Internet access, making PYROtechnics one of the first companies in Chicago to offer Internet access.

PYROtechnics original Internet offering was meant as a means to facilitate communication amongst the global community. Fees were collected merely to offset cost. To this day, PYROtechnics still maintains this hobbyests attitude. Our network is a place for hobbyest and companies alike to experiment with cutting edge technology in a non cost-prohibitive environment.

During PYROtechnics first year as an ISP, it was run out of a basement, and had the look of many startup computer companies. On January 8, 1996, PYROtechnics, and our basement, was featured on the front page of the business section of the Chicago Tribune. In May, 1996, PYROtechnics moved from the basement to its current location in the Harris Bank Building located at 800 East Northwest Highway in Palatine, IL.

Founded on the assumption that the Internet is a conduit for the global community to freely share their thoughts and ideas cheaply, quickly, and efficiently with others around the world, PYROtechnics is dedicated to bringing affordable, quality Internet access to the masses. We at PYROtechnics envision a world in which everyone is connected to the global network in such a way that information can flow from point A to point B as quickly as possible, and will pursue that goal to no end.

Unlike most Internet Service Providers who jumped onto the bandwagon after the commercial potential of the internet was realized, PYROtechnics was providing Internet access when the World Wide Web was only a concept. At that time, the Internet consisted mainly of scientists, educators, students, and computer enthusiasts. They used this cost-shared network to exchange information quickly and cheaply. Ever since the World Wide Web came into the public eye it seems almost everyone is trying to make a buck off of the Internet. We at PYROtechnics don't believe the Internet is about making a buck. We believe that is the next step in communication, and to make it work everyone needs sufficient affordable access. Our pricing structure is a general guideline based on our cost of operation.
